The Force 46 barrel is a serious training implement that was created by myself and Jerry Prenatt in 2003. The barrel was U.S. patented in 2006. The barrel is trademarked Force 46 Strength & Conditioning LLC. The science behind the development of this training tool is great for all levels of abilities both athletes and non athletes alike. All of the science and theory about the barrel can be found in my book Force 46 Strength and Conditioning: The John Stucky Perspective: Transformative knowledge for fitness and physical education design.
Why I use the barrels with all populations: Athletes and Non Athletes:
The barrels were created with the idea and benefits of keg lifting however, the kegs had limited use and range of motion. Jerry Prenatt and I created the barrel to be used in all the major philosophical lifts that I use in my program design. The Force 46 barrel also utilizes the neutral grip which is scientifically documented to be better for the shoulders. The neutral grip also builds great grip strength, wrist strength and forearm strength in all of the endless lifts that one can do with this serious training tool. The barrel also provides the unstable movement of water & lifting chains that also makes the individuals mechanical feedback and response system work differently which is important for injury prevention, overcoming the issue of accomodation, overcoming the issue adaptation, improving individualization, intermuscular coordination, and overcoming the strength threshold. Force 46 strength has used the barrels for over 20 years and counting.
